What is something you love about your school? I love that my school has a well-established co-op program. I'm super excited to have this opportunity to work full time during my undergraduate years. I think it will not only be a great experience, but also it will be very valuable in helping me direct where I want to go in the future.
How/why did you choose your major? My favorite classes throughout high school were ones like Biology and Anatomy. This helped me to see a connection between school and my passion for health and fitness. I chose my major of Health Sciences because it provides a solid foundation with flexibility to fit in pre-reqs for grad school that I hope to attend.
What is your relationship with your ZF coach like/In what ways have they helped you? My ZF coaches have been incredibly helpful and friendly. They walked me through the process of applying for this scholarship, discussed the pros and cons of different colleges I was deciding between, and helped me break down the CAT in more detail than I could have done myself. Working with them has helped to turn paying for college from a more abstract problem in my head to a series of various costs and funding that I can visualize and make possible.
What hobbies/extracurriculars/other interests do you have? Tell us about them! Why are they your passions and how did you get involved? I love working out, and have run XC and track throughout all of high school. When I'm not participating in an organized sport, I love going for runs, bike rides, or lifting weights during my free time. Beyond that, I'm a big reader and find curling up with a book to be a great way to relax and unwind.
Why did you apply to ZF/what drew you to this organization? I heard about the Zenie Foundation through my high school and knew that it was something that I would love to be a part of. I really appreciated that it was more than just a scholarship, and had the valuable aspects of mentorship and community as well.
Tell us something you are excited about! This can be anything: an upcoming study abroad trip, an internship or fellowship, a new position in your club, etc. I'm very excited to start college and become part of a much bigger community than the one I have known my whole life. I can't wait to meet a lot of new people and start taking classes in things that I find interesting.
Tell us about some of your career aspirations. It’s totally ok if you aren’t sure yet! This can be as specific or as general as you want. For the past few years, my goal has been to become a physical therapist. I have received PT multiple times growing up and have always found it to be an inspirational and empowering environment. As an athlete, I care a lot about my body and health, and would find helping other people improve their health a very fulfilling career. I'm a strong believer that our physical and mental health are intertwined in countless ways, and that by taking care of our bodies, we have the potential to drastically improve our quality of life and happiness. Who is a role model for you/someone that you look up to and why? A major role model for me is my cousin. She has a special way of moving through the world, and never fails to make everyone around her feel heard and valued. Knowing how important it is to have people like that in your life, she inspires me to act intentionally, be a good listener, and encourage other people in my life to see their worth.
