What is something you love about your school?
Malden High School is the number one diverse school in the state of Massachusetts. Surrounded by different backgrounds and perspectives, every person has a unique story.

How did you choose your major?
I have always had a passion for law and advocacy, organizing protests and volunteering my time. I’ve always been drawn to the subject and have centered a lot of my high school career around classes like AP Gov and Mock Trial. Every time I walked into those classrooms, I was so eager to learn.

What is your relationship with your ZF coach like/In what ways have they helped you?
Kendra and Mike have been so encouraging in a way that made me feel like even if I didn’t get this scholarship, I was glad to meet them and hear their stories. They reminded me that things I didn’t perceive as accomplishments were and supported me through the process with patience. They made time, were flexible, and were kind.

What hobbies/extracurriculars/other interests do you have?
I play both volleyball and tennis, getting into it in seventh grade and freshman year respectively. While I’m definitely not amazing, I’ve made so many connections through it while also keeping myself active. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I started a club at my school: GlamourPals. We go to local senior centers and paint nails and do makeovers. This gives a lot of the seniors a chance to talk and feel less lonely and my club members a sense of gratitude. After taking environmental science in my junior year, I did an internship at Boston University in their microbiology department in the Marlow Lab, analyzing salt marsh cell abundance. The ethical perspective of it all is what pulled me in and having that STEM background and research experience going into college gave me valuable experience.

Why did you apply to ZF/what drew you to this organization?
I applied to ZF because this organization shares the same values that I hold in my heart. I aspire to be a leader in my community and to do that I need to have integrity, honesty, and responsibility. This organization will not only help with my education but also contribute to the development of my character, which is beneficial for my future.

What impact has ZF had on your academic and professional career thus far?
The Zenie Foundation has already had a major impact on my life by guiding me through my academics and with advice on the steps I need to take to pursue my dream career. In the future, I hope to use the skills that I have learned from the Zenie Foundation to become a role model for the youth and create positive changes in my community.
