Hi, I’m Dave (he/him). I am honored to be part of this remarkable group of ZF coaches. I am equally privileged to learn from and coach an exceptional group of ZF students.
I live in Portland Maine with my wife and our yellow lab Georgia. Our two kids are in college but they still remember us once in a while. I grew up in upstate New York and eventually found my way to Maine, where I’ve lived since 2001. I went to Clark University in Worcester, Mass. where I double-majored in Geography and Studio Art. But as I approached graduation, I realized that I wanted to be involved in healthcare and help people regain their health. I had to start at square one since I did not have any connections in healthcare, and none of my education was specific to a career in medicine. I was lucky enough to be hired at an entry level job as an Anesthesia Tech. I was so thrilled to have a job that allowed me to help people in our community, and also pay the bills. Initially, I was unaware of all the opportunities in health care. But as I interacted with various medical professions, I realized that I wanted to do more in the world of medicine. I eventually went back to school to become a Physician Assistant (PA) at the University of New England. I am currently a Neurosurgical PA in Portland. If you have any questions about a career in healthcare I am happy to be a resource for you.
As a ZF coach, I look forward to helping students become effective adults. I want to hear about your experiences and background. I want to listen to your perspective and learn from your viewpoints. I look forward to helping with your questions and challenges. I also want to hear about your visions for the future, and help you figure out how to get there.
I try to keep a healthy work/life balance. I like to get outdoors as much as possible when I’m not at work. I enjoy walking my dog, camping, and hiking. I love being active and doing a variety of sports. In high school I played basketball and soccer. I still somehow play soccer (poorly) and also cross country ski (even worse). I enjoyed coaching my kids’ soccer and volleyball teams when they were younger. And now I look forward to watching them play volleyball, soccer, and lacrosse.
