What is something you love about your school? The community I have found in the Film and Performing Arts major is truly amazing. It may be a small group, but we are all committed to what we do, and being able to work with them has been the best learning experience I could ask for.
How/why did you choose your major? I have always been fascinated by behind-the-scenes videos and blooper reels that would give me a look into what it was like on set, and it aligns with my love for storytelling and project management. Film is something I knew would take me out of my comfort zone but it's worth doing because of how much I love it.
What hobbies/extracurriculars/other interests do you have? Tell us about them! Why are they your passions and how did you get involved? I love crocheting, reading, and gaming. Crocheting is a more recent hobby that I have completely embraced during my time at university. When I'm able to relax, I love putting on a show and working on a project or starting a new one. It's such a good hobby to have when you love making gifts for your friends. I haven't been able to read for pleasure much recently, but I always come back to writers like Jane Austen or the Bronte sisters when I have the chance. My friends and I have recently started a DND campaign, and it has been such a fun opportunity to catch up with friends once a week and play together.
What impact has ZF had on your academic and professional career thus far? What impact do you hope it will have in the future? The Zenie Foundation has made me more confident in my abilities as a student and leader. I have felt inspired by this community and uplifted by the people here to support me, and I love to see that there are people here who believe in me even when I'm having trouble believing in myself. This scholarship allows me to go to school and pursue my academic dreams and I am extremely grateful for it.
Tell us something you are excited about! I am taking a film-intensive course this semester where I will be on set and making a film with other film majors. It's an amazing opportunity to have the chance to see what it's like on a film set in just my first year at UAF. I can't wait to experience all the other opportunities I will have here!
Tell us about a time you made yourself proud. Reaching out and asking for help while struggling with my mental health. One of the scariest things I've had to do is come face to face with what's holding me back and tackle it head-on, and I thank myself for facing my anxiety so that I can now feel more fulfilled in my life.
